These four became an official, legal family on St. Patricks Day, which was fitting seeing as the boys are Irish twins (they are ten months apart!) I am so grateful that I was able to spend the morning with this beautiful family and learning about their story. They decided to start their forever family through foster to adopt program with the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services. The journey started in 2012 when they took an orientation class sponsored by the county and state. The next steps included parenting classes, completing a home study with their assigned social worker and meeting requirements to receive their state license. This lengthy process took nearly 18 months. Next, they waited to be matched with a child. After many months they were matched with a 19 month old boy. They fostered him for 20 months. Ultimately, his biological mother got her life back in order and he was reunified with his mom early this year. Fortunately, he still remains in their life and they get to babysit every month.
Last April they attended a bowling matching event sponsored by the Department of Children and Family Services. Matching events are a great opportunity for foster to adopt applicants to meet and interact with children available for adoption. This is where we met brothers A, who is now 6 and M, who is now age 5. And their lives would be forever changed after meeting these wonderful boys on that fateful day!
