A Look Into My Kids Yearly Photo Books

Uncategorized

the blog:

One of my favorite things to do for my kids every year is to make photo books for them. It all started when Noah was a baby and I got invited to spend the weekend in the Outerbanks with some friends to do some scrapbooking. The first year I think I maybe got three pages done. I spent most of the weekend eating, drinking, and chatting. And I learned that I hated scrapbooking. The next year I decided that even though I hated scrapbooking, I really didn’t want to miss out on a weekend away with my friends, so I brought my laptop and started putting together photo books for each of my kids.

A few weeks ago, I was interviewed by AdoramaPix about the photo books I make for my kids (you can read that interview here) and it inspired me to share a little more about them and why I find them so valuable.

I make one photo book per kid per year. I do this because I think it’s important that they have something that is all about each individual child. Something that they can look at and know they are special. My kids love looking through their books where they are the star of every page. I also want them to be able to take these books with them when they are grown. I want their kids to be able to look through them and see what their parents were like growing up. AdoramaPix Books_001To further personalize each book, I add a few pages of questions they can answer about themselves. Looking back at the way they have answered those questions over the years warms my heart and takes me right back to when they were that age. It’s also a great way to remember things that are easy to forget! Another thing I put in their books is a page of quotes they’ve said throughout the year. Anytime my kids say something hilarious, wise, or memorable, I write it down in a note in my phone and then put those quotes in their books. This has become one of their favorite pages in their books.AdoramaPix Books_0002AdoramaPix Books_0003AdoramaPix Books_0004I include a page where they can draw a self portrait. I love seeing the way they see themselves. AdoramaPix Books_0005AdoramaPix Books_0006The last thing I add in the kids photo books that is not pictured is “A Note from Mom” and “A Note from Dad”. Eddie and I each handwrite a note to each kid about the things that we are proud of and our hopes and dreams for the coming year. It’s hard to put into words what these books mean to my kids and what it means to me when I see them looking through them. I love watching them remember different life milestones, but even more so, I love watching them remember the smaller moments that may seem unimportant but in reality are everything. Moments of playing board games or pushing each other on the swings. I believe those moments are equally important last the big moments in life.AdoramaPix Books_0008

Photo Book Details:

I’ve used many different photo book companies over the years and I’ve finally found the perfect balance of quality and price. I want a book that is good quality that won’t fall apart because I want these books to last a lifetime, but I also don’t want them to be so expensive that I don’t want the kids to touch them or feel like they can’t look through them because they were so expensive. The photo books at AdoramaPix are the perfect combination. They are great quality, but they don’t break the bank!
